“Rockstar” one of the most awaited movies of 2011 finally hits the theatres on this epic date 11-11-11 (I hope there is no numerology jhol in this :p ) A typical delhi boy Janardhan Jhakar a.k.a JJ a.k.a Jordon (Ranbir kapoor) dreams of becoming a rockstar like Jim Morrision (Jeem – Moo-ree-sunn , say it with a delhi accent and you’ll get it). Innocent JJ tries to show his talent at every stage possible. Rockstar is a story of innocent boy Janaradhan Jhakar to superstar Jordon. Heer (Nagris Fakri ) is the hottest chick on the campus and just in order to experience the feeling of love, JJ proposes Heer , Initially she ignores him but later however even she feels in love with him. The love ka scene during the preparation of marriage is used again (like in every imtiaz ali movie. Socha na tha, Jab we met and Love aaj kal. Sab main same plot??? ) Heer gets married and shifts to Prague (Paa – raa-g , try it with delhi accent :p) Meanwhile, JJ here turns into Jordon and becomes a rockstar and goes for a tour in Prague. The not-so-common love story between Heer and Jordon the superstar is what presented to us.
The movie is a flashback showing the journey of Jordon right from delhi to international platforms. 1st half of the movie is very interesting. The funny dialogues and scenes will tickle you hard. The things to do before getting married list made by Heer and Jordon is really crazy and shows a really good chemistry between the two actors. The ‘Jungli Jawani’ scene is very good. The cinematography is excellent in capturing some of the best places of Kashmir and Prague. ‘Kun-Faya’ is one the best songs of the movie and the entire team has done a real good justice to this song by capturing some of the divine moments in Ajmer Darga . My personal favorite scene was when ranbir enacts Shammi Kapoor’s “yeh Chand sa roshan chehra” song in Kashmir. The first half is in a very good pace and holds the audience but similarly the 2nd half bores them too. The 2nd half get very slow in showing the lambi judai type scenes between Heer and Jordon. The star factor and its effects on the life of Jordon get out of focus here and suddenly the extra-marital affair scene pops in. Somehow I feel the end was not proper. There were many loose ends which still need to be worked upon.
A.R.Rehman is always good with his work. Rehman Jadoo works again in rockstar too. Mohit Chauhan – the voice of Jordon, is simply amazing. The music has been very popular among the crowd. “Sadda Haq” Has been a youth anthem these days and is very well shot in the movie too. “Kun Faya” was a blessing. “Jo bhi main” ,“Nadaan Parindey” ,”Tum Ho” and other tracks also made a good appearance in the movie.
Rockstar Ranbir Kapoor has really put in his best for the character. With amazing dialogue delivery and performance, he really steals away critic appreciation. His look and the way he potrays JJ – an innocent youngster from delhi to Superstar Jordon is mindblowing. Nargis Fakhri is very pleasant on screen. She plays a decent role, however the focus has always been on Jordon. Not-to-be missed, Rockstar is the last movie of Shammi Kapoor . His Screen appearance really makes the scene lively. He has just done a cameo, but still that scene is worth watching. Piyush Mishra who plays the music producer Dhingra is funny at times along with Kumud Mishra who plays Khatana , manager of Jordon is good in his role.
The finaly say would be rockstar is a good decent movie with its highs and lows. If you are a hardcore Ranbir fan then you must go and watch it once. Dhinchak Mumbai will rate it 3 stars out of 5 and a bow to the legend Shammi Kapoor and A.R.Rehman’s Music.
