Quit Tobacco before it Quits You!
This year’s theme for “World No Tobacco Day” on 31ST May is “Tobacco Industry Interference” which focuses on Tobacco industry tactics to shape and influence tobacco control policy.
To promote this cause benevolent actor Vivek Oberoi, the brand ambassador for Tobacco Control was present to support along with Arup Patnik- Mumbai Police Commissioner, Eminent music makers Shankar- Eshaan- Loy, Mr. Amal Pusp- Director (MoH&FW), Dr. Y. K. Sapru- Chairman (CPAA), Rituaprna Sengupta, Atul Kasbekar, Raman Mahadevan, Aakriti Kakkar, Shweta Pandit, Neha Bhasin, Anusha Mani, Shilpa Rao, Darsha Doshi and many more.
Recently Cancer Patients Aid Association( CPAA) along with DONEAR supported by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW) and WHO organised All India Photography Competition with the theme of “Tobacco Kills” and winners of the same were felicitated on 25th May at Trident, BKC.
To continue the awareness campaign CPAA has organised Music concert “Celebration Of Life” which will be held on 27th May 2012 in association with DONEAR performed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and many more for free of cost. This fund raising initiative will aid cancer patients in its best possible way.
Vivek Oberoi commented “Smoking and Tobacco are only personal but social evils as well. I was extremely concerned to learn about the increase in tobacco use on all age groups which is a matter of great public health concern. I am proud to be tobacco free and pledge my whole-hearted support to this campaign”.
Shankar Mahadevan invigorated the afternoon by singing his inspiring song “Lakshya toh har haal mein pana hai……” As truly said by Mr. Amal “every revolution starts with a song” and this one was probably the most promising start of this revolution.
Anita Peter Director, CPAA: says “World No Tobacco Day 2012 will seek to educate policy-makers and the general public with regard to the tobacco industry’s harmful tactics and to alert smokers and potential smokers on the most important preventable cause of death and disease in adults”.
