Lakme Fashion Week WF 2014 ended Day 1 with Jacqueline Fernandez as the show stopper for Anju Modi!
Looking at the past and again at the present, Anju Modi’s collection was a story of reincarnation called “Mahikarnika” presented by Reliance Jewels at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 that created a fashionable journey through time.
With the Ajanta and Ellora paintings and Khajuraho sculptures as her muse for the embellishments; Anju revived the age old craft and ancient techniques.
From behind the backdrop of the Ajanta and Ellora paintings and sculptures the models lit under the soft light, set the mood of the show.
Keeping the colour story earthy with sepia tones of sand and old rose, Anju added rich jewel shades of burgundy, ruby and emerald for the lush fabrics that ranged from net, velvet, Tussar and silk for that added regal look to men’s and women’s wear.
Bringing in a mix of silhouettes that ranged from masculine to totally feminine, the eye catching creations made an impact on the ramp. Intricate resham embroidery was the highlight for a long sleeve choli teamed with mosaic motifs in white and gold for a lehenga. Tulle saris were edged in gold with sculpted embroidery. Dhoti pants replaced churidars for floor skimming, swirling, grey, net embroidered kurtas or were worn with sharply cut long sleeve jackets.
Empire line kalidaars in shades of old gold were layered over panelled skirts, cropped long sleeved jackets with tie-ups, extended sleeve caps for ornate blouses and layered velvet lehengas added to the charm of the bridal wear. Cholis remained constant with long sleeves with asymmetric closures and interesting necklines at times with lapels to add drama to the saris.
When it came to wedding wear for men, the floor length angarkhas with heavily embellished velvet shawls and dhotis in earthy tones were teamed with kurtas under discreetly embroidered bundgalas. A ruby red velvet smoking jacket was shown with a stylish tunic and dhoti, sherwanis with slim trousers, an interesting long sleeved waistcoat jacket and two button textured dark ochre suit added variety to men’s wear.
The specially crafted embroidered peep toe zippered high heel bootees were the cynosure of all eyes as they matched beautifully with the traditional creations and gorgeous embroidery.
Ending the show was the beautiful Jacqueline Fernandez wearing a magnificent, glittering lehenga; fully embroidered long sleeved choli and white net dupatta.
Adding to the glitter and glamour of the show was the gorgeous bridal jewellery by Reliance Jewels in a wide assortment of designs for sets, necklaces, earrings, bangles and rings.
For elegance, intricate craftsmanship, glitz and stunning haute couture bridal wear for the New Age couple, Anju Modi’s “Mahikarnika” collection presented by Reliance Jewels was a perfect end to Day One at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014.
