5th June of every year is celebrated as World Environment Day for positive environmental actions. But this year residents from Mulund to Ghatkopar will have to celebrate it the rotting smell of around 500 metric tonnes garbage spills around them.
Garbage which is left unpicked since four days is major concern of public health issue around Mumbai. The heap of garbage at Walji Ladha road, Mulund West caught fire near electric poll. On calling Fire Brigade for several times their number was busy!
At last with no help available the local residents near Hira Monghi hospital arranged for a water tanker and extinguished the fire on their own.
“This is merely because BMC failed to assign a contractor in time, after the existing contractor’s tenure ended on May 31” said the sources.
After lot of agitation from public, BMC promises to clear the garbage by today evening. Let’s see whether they are trustworthy!
