DHINCHAK THEATRE REVIEW: BEYOND BOLLYWOOD
An off broadway musical show, Beyond Bollywood produced by RG studios ne koshish ki badalneki pure duniya ki soch, pushing people to inturn push themselves. With the amazing concept, story, Direction and choreography by Rajeev Goswami, the astonishing music by the ever vibrant Salim-Sulaiman and lyrics by Irfan Siddiqui, the show set up high standards for the a journey of a woman, her dreams, our culture and traditions.
The entire show revolves around the protagonist Shaily who lives with a single dream, that which her mother envisioned. Mumma ka sirf ek hi passion tha – Dance and their ancestoral theatre kept alive their Indian culture and traditions in a city like Munich in Germany. Par waqt kisi ke liye nahi rukta. She died in the process of giving a new life to their dead theatre and her alcoholic husband took her efforts even below the line. Shaily the only heir to the theatre inherited the same skills and dreams as her mother did, a dream beyond life, a dream to carry forward her mother’s legacy which could be possible only through a stage show. India was the only place where she could present the art and passion she inherited. But the journey is never easy as she falls for Raghav, a young talented choreographer who shares the same passion for dance as Shaily does. This further revolves around her journey to place a stand for herself as well as to help Raghav discover himself and create his own existence. As their friendship blossoms into love, Shaily gathers much more than what she could expect in her journey. With their journey so intense, obstacles tough, all Shaily knows is, “The show must go on.”
This show gives ek nayi pehchan to the culture and Nritya of India. It drives you to think beyond your dreams crossing the boundaries of Indian culture, traditions, communal disputes, belief systems. The show showcases the difference between the Indian cultures being downsized by the western influence over the world. But the movement of rhythm, dance gains no barriers, no translations. It takes you beyond life, beyond friendship, beyond love, beyond your dreams, beyond bollywood.
